Bills GM: 'I Personally Don't Think Humans Are Supposed To Play' Football
BUFFALO, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley made a stunning comment Tuesday when he told a Buffalo radio station that people should not be playing football.
The remarks came in response to a question about the injury history of wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who most recently suffered a fractured foot.
"It's the game of football. Injuries are part of it," Whaley told WGR. "It's a violent game that I personally don't think humans are supposed to play. "
Whaley's comments are sure to raise some eyebrows around the league. The NFL, of course, has been under scrutiny for how it handles injuries, namely concussions.
On Monday, a congressional report accused the NFL of trying to influence a government study on the link between football and brain disease. According to Rep. Frank Pallone Jr., D-N.J., the league backed out of funding the study over concerns that a researcher was biased.
The NFL has denied the allegations.
