Bill, Hillary Clinton Endorse Bill de Blasio For Mayor
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Bill de Blasio has the blessing of the Clintons.
The Democratic candidate for mayor is being endorsed by Bill and Hillary Clinton.
"Bill de Blasio has been a friend to both President Clinton and Secretary Clinton for many years. They were proud to see him run a thoughtful, creative campaign about the issues, and they are behind him as he moves on to the general election as the Democratic nominee," said Matt McKenna and Nick Merrill, spokesmen for the Clintons.
On Monday, Bill Thompson conceded the Democratic primary race, setting up a de Blasio-Joe Lhota showdown for all the mayoral marbles in November.
Former mayoral candidate and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn endorsed de Blasio for mayor Tuesday.
"It is time for Democrats throughout our city to put aside their differences and fight together for the progressive values we all share" Quinn said.

De Blasio said it was an honor to receive Quinn's support.
"She is a tireless fighter for her constituents and she has always been a powerful voice on so many critical issues," he said. "I look forward to working with her to move our great city forward."
De Blasio wrapped up the day by receiving an endorsement from the teacher's union.
"They're all quite impressive," De Blasio said,"I hope that people in this city as they're watching this extraordinary coalition recognize that it represents that there's a real cross section of people in this city who believe in the vision I'm talking about."
United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew said that supporting de Blasio was a no brainer.
"To make sure that a Democrat becomes the mayor of New York City and not the Republican nominee," he said.
De Blasio will face off against Republican mayoral nominee Joe Lhota in the general election on Nov. 5. Adolfo Carrion Jr., a former Bronx borough president running as an independent, will also be on the ballot for mayor.
