De Blasio On WFAN: 'This Is A Tremendous Moment For Women In This Country'
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The U.S. women's national soccer team was honored with a ticker-tape parade in Lower Manhattan on Friday followed by a ceremony at City Hall honoring its triumphant World Cup win.
Before the events, Mayor Bill de Blasio joined WFAN co-hosts Kim Jones and Marc Malusis to discuss the importance of the parade and the significance of what the American team accomplished.
"This was a historic moment, and they were more than worthy of the parade through the Canyon of Heroes," de Blasio told Jones and Malusis. "We wanted to really revive that tradition and honor this extraordinary team."

The USWNT capped its historic run with a 5-2 victory over Japan in the final this past Sunday. It was the third World Cup title for the United States women, and the first since 1999.
"This is a tremendous moment for women in this country, and particularly for women's sports," the mayor told the radio duo. "I think this is a moment where the eyes of the nation -- the eyes of the world -- are on this team and what they represent. It certainly says to young women and girls that they can do anything."
