Bikers Accused In Road Rage Incident Could Get Plea Deals, Reduced Charges
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- There was new information on Friday in the case of a shocking road rage video that was seen around the world.
Charges against some of the bikers accused in September's West Side Highway incident will likely be reduced and others may be offered plea deals, CBS 2's Tony Aiello reported.
Prosecutors said that driver Alexian Lien has been healing well since receiving the beating, which means that the top charge which required permanent injury to the victim probably won't be supported, Aiello reported.
Even with a reduction, 10 bikers would still face lesser assault charges that could put them in prison for a maximum of 15 years.
Lien and his family were driving on the West Side Highway on Sept. 29, when their SUV was surrounded by bikers.
Lien gunned it and ran over a biker, sparking a chase that ended when the SUV was cornered and attacked.
In court on Friday, there was word that plea deals were in the works.
Biker Wojciech Braszczok was reportedly offered three years in prison. Others could receive deals from 60 days to eight years. None of the deals are official yet but are likely to be finalized early next year, Aiello reported.
The Manhattan District Attorney's Office consults with victims before approving any plea deals.
