Bicyclist Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver In Brooklyn, Police Say
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was struck and killed while riding a bicycle in a hit-and-run accident in East Flatbush, Brooklyn Saturday morning.
Police say the 30-year-old victim, identified as Jeremy Morales, was travelling westbound at the intersection of Church and Nostrand Avenues around 8:30 a.m. when he was struck by a silver Infiniti travelling southbound on Nostrand.
Morales was launched nearly a half block from where it was struck, CBS2's Dave Carlin reported.
"We've never seen nothing like that before. The guy didn't stop. He didn't think about stopping," witness Hugh Camp said.
Bystanders were left stunned. One jumped into action running, perhaps trying to help the victim or chase the suspect.
Camp said he knew the impact was something the bicyclist couldn't survive.
"Flying in the air like a doll, like a rag doll," he told Carlin. "He look like he just came out of World War II."
Morales was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County where he was pronounced dead.
Surveillance video shows just how fast the car was going.
"That's way over the speed limit," resident William Powell said. "I don't even know if he had the light or not, but now that he drove away it's totally -- he's liable."
The body was thrown so far, evidence was strewn about for a block and police shut down Nostrand Avenue. Detectives bagged multiple pieces of evidence, while officers put the bicycle in the back of a patrol car and drove off before reopening the street.
Investigators heard from witnesses there were at least two people in the suspect's car, but descriptions of the driver and any passengers were not immediately available.
The car (seen in the photos below) continued westbound on Erasmus Street.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
