5 Great Beard Grooming Salons In NYC
Beards are back -- as you've probably noticed -- and in a big way. But what happens when the beard gets too big? Why, you need to get the beard attended to, of course, preferably by a professional. Here's our five favorite places for beard grooming in the city. By Jessica Allen.
Truly old-school, Barberie harks back to a time when going to the barbershop was practically an all-day affair. Located in a former carriage house in the East Village, this "full-service Italian grooming parlor" will have you looking your best, using a combination of contemporary products and old-fashioned techniques. A beard trim (aka a "barba") will run you about $20, while a head shave (a "testa") will cost you $30 and a textured scissor cut ("forbici") about $40.

Barbering by Marcus, featuring services by the eponymous Marcus as well as other expert groomers, specializes in "modern barbering." You'll walk in all shaggy dog and exit all shaped, styled and soothed. The beard trim promises to tame your facial mane. After you've been trimmed, you'll get pampered with a hot towel infused with eucalyptus. Other services include nail care, haircuts, scalp massages, and waxing. Oh, and, yes, the stylist at right really does keep his tools in a holster.

With locations in the East Village, Williamsburg, and Bushwick, Hairrari has some of the hippest neighborhoods in the city covered, tonsorially-speaking. A beard trim ranges in price, depending on the complexity of the beard in question. You can also get your bangs done, have a "facial rejuvenation," and get your head hair spiffed up. Women welcome too (unlike most salons, the prize for a cut depends on the length of hair, not the gender of the person beneath it).
