Prosecutor: Boy, 11, Finds Parents Dead In Apparent Murder-Suicide
BERGENFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The deaths of two people found inside a New Jersey home appear to be a murder-suicide, prosecutors said, but it's not clear what sparked the incident.
Police responded to the Bergenfield home around 10:20 a.m. Saturday after an 11-year-old boy reported that his parents were not breathing.
Bergen County prosecutors said a 36-year-old woman was found in an upstairs bedroom and a 44-year-old man was found in the basement.
They said the man appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, but declined comment on the woman's death. Their names were not released.
Acting county Prosecutor Gurbir Grewal said the deaths were being investigated as a "domestic violence-based murder-suicide.''
One next door neighbor said she didn't hear a thing nor did she ever hear of any problems.
"I left my house around 9:30, I didn't know anything about it," she told CBS2's Steve Langford.
The 11-year-old boy was placed in the custody of child welfare officials.
