B&C Show Blog & Audio: Melo's Homecoming

Bobby Dwyer

"Coming Home"… It was a great night in the Big Apple as Carmelo Anthony & Chauncey Billups made their Knick debuts and the night culminated with a 114-108 win over the Milwaukee Bucks with the two newest Knickerbockers playing a big role.  'Melo' finished with 27 points and 10 rebounds, while Billups, who has been almost an afterthought in the deal, had anything but an 'afterthought' line score in the win - 21 points, 6 rebounds & 8 assists.  So early returns (very early) on the trade are all good, as the Knicks get ready to embark on a three-game road trip beginning Friday night in Cleveland (@ Miami – Sunday and @ Orlando – Tuesday).  The New Jersey Nets made a splash of their own making a trade with the Utah Jazz for arguably the best point guard in the league, Deron Williams.  Craig took a minute out of his 'Melo-Time' to thank Mikhail Prokhorov and the Nets for bringing Williams closer to New York, insinuating the Knicks could make a play for the All-Star point guard when his current contract expires following the 2011-12 season and he is scheduled to become a free-agent…

Plus, Jerry's update highlighted by an interesting comment from Chauncey Billups, 'Coming Home' featuring Skylar Grey, Peter Vecsey takes a shot at B&C and pays the price, Avery Johnson boasts about the Nets landing Deron Williams, Kevin McHale says that MSG smells like elephants, Jerry (and Al) deliver their Moment(s) of the Day and an 'Attention Grabber' from Colorado that will make you forget all about the Rocky Mountains…

Jerry's update was mostly about the Knicks and their win over the Bucks last night at the Garden.  A game that saw Amar'e Stoudemire  get yet another technical foul, his 15th of the season (one more and he will handed an automatic one-game suspension) after he had already fouled out, so there is a situation that needs monitoring.  Chauncey Billups spoke after the game and insinuated that his job his job is to please his teammates, which led to Al having a fantasy come true.  Jerry did manage to sneak in some other sports news, including St. Johns' 5th straight win, Terry Collins and the Mets down on Port St. Lucie, as well as Tiger Woods' early exit from the Match Play Championship…

'Coming Home' is the song that the folks at the Garden played prior to last night's Knicks introductions (and has been running through my head all day), accompanied by a video tribute to Carmelo and the remaining Knicks players.  'Coming Home' is a song by Diddy – Dirty Money and it features an artist named Skylar, who we knew little about.  After some research and a call from Craig's buddy over at Island Def Jam Records, Erik Olesen, we learned her full name is Skylar Grey (stage name) and she is quite an established artist.  I'm talking Grammy-Award winning good.  Her real name is Holly Brook and it sounds like we'll be hearing a lot of her pipes down the road, as Craigie declared 'Coming Home' as the unofficial theme song for the Knicks…

The NY Post's NBA insider Peter Vecsey was on with Boomer & Craig on Tuesday, after the Carmelo deal went down and things got a little uncomfortable between Peter and the guys.  Then last night he went on with Steve Somers and referred to B&C as clowns and said they know nothing about basketball.  Turns out Mr. Vecsey has a few skeletons in his closet and somehow Craigie got a key.  I think it's safe to assume we won't be having Vecsey on again anytime in the immediate future…

Avery Johnson has a reason to be smiling this morning, not because he is a closet Knicks fan, but because his team got an upgrade of their own, acquiring point guard extraordinaire Deron Williams in exchange for Devin Harris and rookie power forward Derrick Favors, along with some draft picks and cash.  He joined B&C this morning to talk about the huge deal that somehow was pulled off 'under the radar'.  He also asked Craig to let him hear his impression of Brook Lopez, who Craigie has had fun with since he entered the league back in 2008.  Craig also opened up some old wounds when he brought up Game 5 of the 1999 NBA Finals when Johnson hit a game winning, 18-foot jumper to give the San Antonio Spurs a 4-1 series win over the Knicks.  Johnson displayed little sympathy, check that he showed no sympathy at all, he just told Craig that the Knicks should not have left him open, which is a fair point…

Kevin McHale, who played his entire 13-year career with the Boston Celtics, came on with B&C this morning and declared he does not dislike New York or the Knicks, but he does have a problem with the Garden smelling like elephants.  Kidding aside, he said he is a fan of Mike D'Antoni and his system, but isn't sure he can with it in the NBA, I guess time will tell.  He also talked about playing with one of the greatest players of all-time and indisputable the greatest trash-talker' of all-time, Larry Bird, who according to McHale had a way with words…

Usually after his last update of the Show, Jerry delivers his highly anticipated Moment of the Day and today was no different, as we heard from Omar in Brooklyn and he expressed his feelings about Peter Vecsey.  Afterwards though, Al decided to step on Jerry's toes a bit and delivered his very own Moment of the Day and it predictably involved Dominique, the guy's make-up artist and something she said that Al believed was aimed towards him…
