B&C Morning Show: Yanks Can't Sweep Halos, Mets Stumbling After Break
The great Jerry "Rello" Recco gave us his first update of the morning.
He got started with the Jeremy Lin contract saga. The Knicks have until midnight Tuesday to match his monster offer from the Rockets. We hear sound from Carmelo Anthony about how we all may have misread the whole situation, himself included.
Before long, the focus shifts to baseball. Both the Mets and Yankees lost on Sunday. But at least in the Yanks' case, they still took two out of three from the Angels despite the 10-8 setback in the series finale. We hear from Alex Rodriguez after he made the final out of the game. We also hear how close Curtis Granderson came to hitting a go-ahead grand slam in the 8th inning. Well, at least if you listened to John Sterling's radio call you would think it just missed foul. Craig however is quick to point out the ball was more like 30 feet foul.
As for the Mets, well they're a bit of a mess right now. The Braves finished off a 3-game sweep of the Amazin's with a 6-1 win yesterday. But no worries Mets fans. It was clearly the fault of home plate umpire C.B. Bucknor. Pitching coach Dan Warthen was bothered enough by Bucknor's strike zone that he got ejected from the game. Johan Santana told the media he thought a couple of the calls changed the complexion of the game. Craig laughs it off. But if the seeming yearly second-half swoon continues over the next few weeks, he may be opening up the church doors before too long.
Jerry wraps up with the details of Drew Brees' new contract with the Saints and Elvis Dumervil being arrested on weapons charges. Plus Craig points out that the deadline to sign franchise tags in the NFL is today, and our boy Ray Rice remains unsigned in Baltimore.
