Batista: Mets Are 'The Best Team In Baseball'
NEW YORK (WFAN) - In the midst of the Mets' six game losing streak, right-hander Miguel Batista has found a way to stay optimistic.
"I believe this team is way, way better than what it's been playing," the 17-year veteran told reporters. "And regardless of the fact what other people might think, October is not here yet. We'll see at the end of the season."
"Right now [the Nats are] playing good baseball, but I don't believe they're a better team than us," the 41-year-old went on to say. "They're playing great baseball. But better team? I believe we're the better team. We just have to play as we're supposed to. Every team goes through a bad stretch, from the greatest to the worst....We just have to believe how good we are and just go out there and perform. I believe we are the best team in baseball. We just have to play like one."
The Mets' last win came on July 7. They will finish up a three-game away series with the Nationals Thursday night, and then return back to Citi Field for a two-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers. They currently sit at third place in the NL East with a 46-45 record.
Batista is 1-2 this year in 43 and 2/3 innings pitched with a 4.33 ERA. His next scheduled start is July 21 at home against the Dodgers.
