Barbara Bush Backs Gay Marriage In New York
NEW YORK (AP / WCBS 880) - One of former President George W. Bush's twin daughters says she supports gay marriage.
The Human Rights Campaign, a national gay rights organization, has released a video featuring 29-year old Barbara Bush.
In the video, Barbara Bush calls herself "a New Yorker for marriage equality.'' She says every person should be able to marry the person he or she loves.
The former president opposed gay marriage and endorsed a proposed constitutional amendment to outlaw it.
Gay rights advocates believe New York lawmakers may vote to legalize gay marriage this year. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has declared his support for gay marriage and advocates believe they have enough votes in the legislature to pass it this year.
Barbara Bush lives in Manhattan and runs a nonprofit organization that promotes global health issues.
