Police Deploy Pepper Spray To Stop Fight Outside Baldwin High School On L.I.
BALDWIN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Several teenagers were sprayed with pepper spray Friday, after police tried to stop a large fight at a Baldwin High School on Long Island.
The fight happened around 1:15 p.m. outside the school, at 841 Ethel T. Kloberg Dr. in Baldwin.
Nassau County police said a large fight broke out between students outside of the school. They said an officer shouted at the teens to stop, but they wouldn't.
Police said the officer then deployed a can of pepper spray, sending the teens scrambling in several directions.
A police spokesman wouldn't say Friday evening how many people were sprayed or whether the department felt the officer's actions were appropriate.
Police said the incident was under investigation.
A school spokeswoman said the fight was in a parking lot across the street. She said several students were treated in the school nurse's office.
