Bail For NJ Synagogue Firebomb Suspect Aakash Dalal Stays At $2.5 Million
HACKENSACK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Prosecutors say a teenager charged in a series of attacks on New Jersey synagogues had a blueprint for a public school marked up for an attack with the words "Project Anarchy" written on it.
Prosecutors discussed the blueprint during a bail hearing Wednesday for Aakash Dalal and said the Camden County school blueprint was the first thing police found while searching Dalal's home.
The 19-year-old has pleaded not guilty to charges of arson, bias intimidation and criminal mischief. The charges stem from a series of attacks on synagogues in Bergen County, including the firebombing of a rabbi's home.
Dalal's bail was kept at $2.5 million.
The firebombings occurred at the Temple Beth-El in Rutherford on Jan. 11 and at a synagogue in Paramus on Jan. 3.
Nineteen-year-old Anthony Graziano also has pleaded not guilty in the case.
While Graziano is accused of actually hurling the device through the window and onto the bed of Rabbi Nosson Schuman in the Rutherford attack, Prosecutor John Molinelli has previously said "Mr. Dalal was the teacher" and "Mr. Graziano was the student."
"It was Mr. Dalal that directed in how to make it, how often to throw it, how to throw it in a way that it would cause the most damage" Molinelli said. "Mr. Dalal was actually the instigator of these incidents, advised Mr. Graziano where on the Internet he could find out how to make a Molotov cocktail."
