'Baby Hope's' Real Name Engraved On Headstone In Bronx Cemetery
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- After more than two decades, the real name of "Baby Hope" will be engraved on her headstone Thursday.
Anjelica Castillo's body was found stuffed in a cooler along the Henry Hudson Parkway on July 23, 1991.
Last month, police said her distant cousin, 52-year-old Conrado Juarez, confessed to sexually abusing the girl and then smothering her. He is due in court next week.
'Baby Hope's' Real Name Engraved On Headstone In Bronx Cemetery
Her black marble headstone at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx now has her true identity on it, reading Anjelica Castillo, born April 4, 1987, "Because We Care."
The 4-year-old girl, who was known as "Baby Hope" for 22 years, was just recently identified thanks to a renewed effort by the NYPD over the summer to get new information in the case.
Police handed out posters and flyers featuring a composite sketch of what the child might have looked like and offered a $12,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
A tip came in to the Crime Stoppers phone line and that bit of information led detectives to Castillo's mother, which led to a DNA match and ultimately to Juarez.
