Baby Being Pushed In Stroller Struck, Killed By Truck In North Amityville
NORTH AMITYVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A 10-month-old girl died after the stroller her pregnant mother was pushing was struck by a pickup truck Saturday night in North Amityville, police said.
As 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck reported, Yancy Arevalo, 29, was crossing Route 110 near Nathalie Avenue in the Long Island hamlet around 7 p.m. when the stroller was hit by a 1998 Chevrolet pickup.
The infant was pronounced dead at 1:46 a.m. at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, police said. Arevalo suffered minor injuries and was hospitalized for observation because she is pregnant.

The driver of the pickup truck, Arthur Plowden, 46, remained at the scene and has not been charged. His vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Plowden was not speeding, Schuck reported.
Gene, who lives near the accident site, told Schuck that most residents there know the highway is dangerous for pedestrians.
"I usually don't come anywhere near this road without being in a car," he said. "I'm surprised somebody who lives here bothered crossing the road without crossing at a light."
