B, Q And F Train Service To Be Suspended For 10 Days In Southern Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Subway service on the B, Q and F trains in southern Brooklyn will be suspended for 10 days beginning Friday, as crews replace switches and conduct other maintenance.
Beginning at 11 p.m. Friday and continuing until 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, the F Train will be suspended in both directions between the terminal at Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue, and the Avenue X station in Gravesend. Q Trains will be suspended between the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue Terminal and Brighton Beach.
B Trains, which only run on weekdays, will not run south of the Kings Highway station on the cusp of Midwood and Sheepshead Bay. Those headed for Brighton Beach will need to switch to a southbound Q Train.
Free shuttle bus service will also be available between Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue and Brighton Beach for Q Train customers, and Avenue X for F Train customers. Both shuttles will stop at West 8th Street-New York Aquarium, and the F Train shuttle will also stop at Ocean Parkway; the Q Train shuttle at Neptune Avenue.
The switch renewal project is considered essential for the safe operation of trains that run along the Sea Beach Corridor, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said. The current switches were installed in 1987.
Other maintenance work will include the installation of new track panels along the elevated B, Q and F line structure, the MTA said.
