Authorities: Victims In Collision With NJ TRANSIT Bus In Pleasantville Were All Teens
PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities on Tuesday released the names of three people killed when the car in which they were riding collided with an NJ TRANSIT bus near Atlantic City.
Kira Strider, 14, and Amber Fernandez, 16, both of Pleasantville, died in Monday's crash at Franklin Boulevard and Old Turnpike Road in that Atlantic County town along with Tevin Campbell, 18, of Absecon.
Authorities said the car driven by 18-year-old Melissa Rodriguez of Pleasantville was northbound on Franklin Boulevard when she swerved for unknown reasons and struck the bus driven by 69-year-old Carmen Mazzagatti. The car then flipped around but remained upright.
Rodriguez and five passengers were in the car, including two people who remained hospitalized Tuesday.
The bus was operating on the 502 Line. It originated at the Atlantic City bus terminal and was headed to the Hamilton Mall, NJ TRANSIT spokesman John Durso told WCBS 880. About 10 people were on the bus.
Three people were injured on the bus – including the bus operator, Durso said. None of the injuries were life-threatening, he said.
