Authorities: Staples Cashier Bilked Customers Out Of $180,000
MAMARONECK, NY (AP) -- A cashier at a Westchester Staples is being accused of selling stolen credit card information in a scam that bilked 50 customers out of more than $180,000.
Police tell The Journal News that 21-year-old Valerie Fajardo, of the Bronx, used a skimming device to capture the credit card information from unsuspecting customers at a Mamaroneck Staples between May and December.
Police say she then sold the information for $6,000 to a man who used it to create fraudulent credit cards to rack up more than $180,000 in purchases.
Fajardo was arrested Tuesday on charges of criminal possession of a forgery device, scheme to defraud and other charges and is being held without bail at the Westchester County jail in Valhalla. Information on her lawyer was not immediately available.
