Authorities: Man Killed Girlfriend, Self Inside Jersey City Apartment
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP)-- Authorities have released the name of the man they believe fatally stabbed his ex-girlfriend and killed himself inside a northern New Jersey apartment.
Hudson County prosecutors tell The Jersey Journal that 27-year-old Luis Alfredo Barba of Jersey City was found in the kitchen when police went to the residence Thursday. They also found 18-year-old Maria Peralta, who had stab wounds to her head and torso.
Barba had at least one stab wound to the chest.
Prosecutors say the couple recently ended their relationship and Barba contacted Peralta on Wednesday night, asking her to come get her belongings.
A friend dropped Peralta off at the apartment, but later became concerned when she couldn't contact her. When she returned to the apartment Thursday morning, she saw Peralta's foot on the floor.
