Authorities Make Arrests In Bronx Drug Trafficking Ring
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - An investigation into a violent Bronx drug trafficking ring has resulted in eight fresh arrests, authorities announced Wednesday.
The new defendants have been charged with a range of crimes including conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and heroin. Some were also charged with firearms offenses, according to officials.
The case now has a total of 10 defendants.
Officials say the crew's ringleader, Anibal Ramos, and another member, Anibal Soto, were accused in a July indictment with torturing a kidnapping victim with an iron.
Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara calls the gang, based on Wyatt Street, "a bloody blight'' on the community.
The FBI and NYPD are part of the investigation.
