Attorney: Brooklyn Man Hosting Party Beaten By Cops In Bias Incident
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The lawyer for a Brooklyn man arrested over the weekend claims the NYPD officers involved carried out a hate crime.
Police were called to Jabbar Campbell's Crown Heights apartment around 3 a.m. Sunday as he was hosting about 80 people in his apartment for a gay pride party on a noise complaint.

Campbell said one of the officers turned his hallway-facing surveillance camera toward a wall. And he says when he opened the door, the cops began beating him and yelling anti-gay slurs.
"One officer who I believe to be my arresting officer who had a support glove on and just went to work on my face. It was like he was at the gym," Campbell told reporters. "They restricted both my arms and I couldn't block the blows to my face. I couldn't block the blows to my neck and back."

Campbell's attorney claims the officers illegally searched his client's home. Attorney Herb Subin also said the police beating was a bias incident against a gay man.
"A sergeant who was there who was the one who turned the camera screamed 'get him.' Several officers held him, restraining his arm, and started to beat him around his head, stomach and back," Subin said.
The police complaint against Campbell said he resisted arrest and was in possession of marijuana and ecstasy at the time of the incident.
"All complete lies," Campbell said.
Internal affairs is investigating the incident. Campbell's attorney said he plans to sue.
