Police Search For Man Who Tried To Rape Woman Inside Bronx Building

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The search is on for a man police said tried to rape a woman inside her Bronx building.

CBS2's Magdalena Doris reported police said that the suspect tried to pacify the victim while assaulting her, telling her it's OK and not to resist.

Video shows the suspect inside a Soundview Bodega on April 29, minutes before police said he followed a 29-year-old woman home, pushing her inside the door and threatening to rape her.

The victim, who did not want to show her face to CBS2, said she is still very scared after fighting off the would-be rapist. Police said he forced his way into her lobby, grabbed her, whispered in her ear "It's OK," and ripped at her clothes.

Investigators said the victim worried about her safety and the safety of her young daughter.

Tenants said the building's landlord has added locks on the front door following the attack.

Women in the neighborhood said they are taking extra precautions.

"The thing is watch when someone comes behind you. Now I watch when I go to the store," one woman said.

Another woman said, "It shows that people really have to be careful who they are opening the doors to."

Police are warning residents to be wary and check around when they are entering their buildings.
