Atlantic City, Coney Island Among Nation's Best Boardwalks
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- National Geographic has named Atlantic City and Coney Island as having the best boardwalks in the nation.
Atlantic City ranked number one on the list with Coney Island coming in second.
National Geographic calls Atlantic City "the grandfather of boardwalks,'' adding that it anchors the seaside gambling resort and says Coney Island's revitalization of its legendary amusement area puts it high on the list.
Other top finishers were Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Ocean City, Maryland; Venice Beach, California; Rehoboth Beach, Delaware; Santa Cruz, California; the Sandwich boardwalk in Massachusetts; Virginia Beach and Wildwood, New Jersey.
