Residents To Face Inconveniences As Ashford Avenue Bridge Project Begins
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Some bridges in Westchester County are finally getting some much-needed TLC.
But local residents say they're not ready for the inconvenience that will come with the project.
As WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported, the Ashford Avenue Bridge is falling down and needs to be replaced.
In the short-term, some inconveniences will impact the area between Ardsley and Dobbs Ferry: traffic, detours, and perhaps some lost business, Adams reported.
"It will get hectic, but I'm sure people will -- if they put enough warning up for people to detour the area, hopefully it works," said volunteer firefighter Tom Black. "Emergency response units are going to have a hard time getting across the bridge."
For the next two years, there will only be one lane in each direction on the bridge. The ramp to the Saw Mill River Parkway will also be closed. Also on tap to the north in Pleasantville, expect overnight closures on the Sawmill in April and June as state the Department of Transportation rebuilds two other bridges.
