Retired NYPD officer Arno Herwerth made news in 2007 when he battled the DMV and won the right to have the license plate "GETOSAMA" on his van.

But now, with the Al-Qaida leader's death at the hands of a U.S. Navy SEAL team in Pakistan, the Hauppauge man is heading back to the DMV to change the plate.

"Obviously "GETOSAMA" is no longer fashionable so I first thought of "GOTOSAMA" but I looked on the internet and that's already taken," Herwerth told 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera.

His other vehicle has the licence plate "AX-ALQADA."

Arno also spray-painted the side of his van, which is parked in front of his home, with the words "Live Free Or Die" and "Get Osama."

He spent some time Monday updating his ride to read "Got Osama."

Herwerth said he has been getting a lot of support from other motorists.

"They're smiling, they're waving, honking their horn, thumbs up," Herwerth said.
