It's not typical to see a black bear there, WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported.

But police have closed Lombardi Park and put two schools - Wampus Elementary School and Crittenden Middle School - on alert after a black bear was spotted.

"In the backyard, we had a large black bear. Came and ripped down one of the bird feeders," resident Chip Wyce told Adams. "My son saw it out the window from downstairs and then the dog noticed it and took off after it and the bear ran away."

So far, the bear has shown a healthy fear of humans, Adams reported. So, wildlife officials will not try to trap and relocate it unless it becomes a nuisance.
