Carmelo Anthony Hosts Family Of Trayvon Martin At MSG
NEW YORK (WFAN) - Knicks' superstar Carmelo Anthony invited the family of Trayvon Martin into the Knicks' locker room at Madison Square Garden before Friday's game against the Wizards.
Martin, 17, was fatally shot on February 26th in Sanford, Florida. His mother, Sybrina Fulton and older brother, Jahvaris Fulton visited the Knicks' locker room where they were greeted privately by Anthony who posed for pictures with the family.
Anthony spoke to Marc Berman of the New York Post about the special encounter with Martin's loved ones.
"It was a blessing and honor,'' Anthony said. "We all know the tragedy that happened. Bringing them to the locker room in the back, meeting all the players, meeting the coaches. We had no media there. It was something I wanted to do. I lost my sister last year so I know how it feels.''
The Fultons did not stay for Friday's game as their feared media attention and instead took in 'The Lion King' on Broadway.
Anthony and many prominent NBA stars have honored Martin by wearing hooded sweatshirts during practice and warmups.
