Annual Hungerthon Effort Breaks Record
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - An annual effort to stamp out hunger has set a new record, thanks to CBS radio listeners.
WhyHunger's 2011 Hungerthon, teaming up with media partners including CBS radio stations WCBS 880, 1010 WINS and WFAN, raised over $750,000.
The stations devoted a lot of time to the effort on November 22 and offered dozens of special auction items to raise money.
Among the items that brought in over $20,000 were a Bruce Springsteen autographed guitar, a Switchfoot concert at your home and a Taylor Swift signed Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitar.
There are still auction items available. Check them out HERE.
Hungerthon.org received tens of thousands of visits from over 100 countries worldwide and for the first time in Hungerthon history, social media played a critical role with 25 percent of all web traffic coming directly from Facebook.
WhyHunger also received over $10,000 via text message donations (texting IMAGINE to 50555) through its ongoing "Imagine There's No Hunger" initiative with Yoko Ono Lennon and Hard Rock International.
