Ankle Sprain Ends Miserable Season For Giants QB Eli Manning
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning was knocked out of Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins after spraining his left ankle late in the first half.
Manning started his 150th consecutive game, but was injured throwing an incomplete pass under pressure from defensive end Chris Baker. He was intercepted by Josh Wilson on the next play and limped off the field, heading directly to the locker room. It was his career-high 27th interception this season, tops in the NFL.
Curtis Painter replaced Manning at the start of the second half and the Giants announced after the second series that Manning, who was 10 of 24 for 152 yards, a touchdown and an interception, would not return.
New York also lost wide receivers Rueben Randle to a knee injury and Hakeem Nicks to an ankle. Guard James Brewer left the game in the second quarter with an ankle injury and his return was questionable. Starting left tackle Will Beatty sprained a knee in the third quarter and had to leave the game.
Wilson, who intercepted Manning's last pass, sustained a head and calf injury on the play, which set up a Washington field goal. He was cleared of a concussion, but knocked out by the calf.
Washington defensive end Jarvis Jenkins also suffered a head injury in the first half.
The Giants won, 20-6.
