Lawyer Asks Judge To Reduce Bail For Ex-Rutgers Football Player Charged In Home Invasions
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A bail hearing was held in New Brunswick for one of the former Rutgers University football players charged in a series of armed home invasions earlier this year.
Andre Boggs pleaded not guilty earlier this month to armed robbery, armed burglary and conspiracy. He was one of several players accused of allegedly robbing other students of drugs and money in three home invasions in April and May.
Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Kuberiet said the likelihood of a conviction in this case is "excellent." He told the judge that co-defendants and multiple victims identified the 20-year-old former quarterback at the scene of the home invasions.

Kuberiet said the charges against Boggs are serious and should be taken into account, but defense attorney Jim Donohue said the lack of evidence against Boggs doesn't justify a $500,000 bail.
Donohue painted Boggs as an upstanding citizen who has never been in trouble with the law, whose athleticism gained him a full scholarship to Rutgers, and who would never disappoint his mother, who's suffering with lupus and is in need of a second kidney transplant, WCBS 880's Kelly Waldron reported.
"This is not a situation he's ever been in. He's looking forward to getting out and getting on with his life," Donohue said. "He has everything to lose and nothing to gain if he doesn't come back to court. He wants to regain his reputation."
Judge Dennis Nieves did not yet make his decision on bail, but said he will lower it.
