Ancient Artifacts From St. Francis Of Assisi On Display In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A collection of historic medieval documents will go on display in the Brooklyn Borough Hall on Wednesday.
Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams on Tuesday unveiled the 12th- and 13th-century manuscripts from the sacred convent of St. Francis of Assisi.
St. Francis of Assisi is one of the most revered figures in Roman Catholic history, and one of the most prominent in the history of organized religion. The onetime knight was known for abandoning a luxurious life and taking a vow of poverty and asceticism after believing he had heard the word of God.
The medieval manuscripts and sacred documents have not been removed from Italy in 700 years. The Brooklyn Borough Hall exhibition is the only opportunity for the public to see the documents in the United States.
The exhibit runs through Jan. 14.
