Amtrak Service Restored Between Philadelphia And D.C., Extensive Delays Anticipated
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Service has been restored on the Northeast Corridor Amtrak lines between Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia after an hour and a half service disruption.
According to Amtrak, trains had to be halted around 12:25 p.m. due to damage to overhead wires in Maryland. The damage to the wires was characterized as "extensive," according to Amtrak, but service resumed as of 2 p.m.
Amtrak crews continued to make final repairs on the damaged wires.
Passengers should expect extensive residual congestion delays through the area while crews complete the final repairs to the system and restore to the second available track to service, Amtrak announced.
Northeast Corridor service runs between Boston and Washington, with stops at Penn Station and several other Tri-State Area locations.
The line continued to run between Boston and Philadelphia.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
