Amtrak Finishes Rail Repairs, LIRR Service Back To Normal
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Commuters coming in to New York City Friday morning on the Long Island Rail Road will have a pleasant surprise. After a week of cancellations and delays, service is finally back to normal.
The LIRR said trains will operate at full peak service for Friday morning's rush hour.
Crews have been working to fix a 1,400-foot section of damaged track inside an East River tunnel, where an empty five-car Amtrak train derailed Sunday afternoon.
There will be 143 trains operating during Friday's morning peak hours and 126 trains during the evening peak hours.
