Amityville Considers Capping Police Salaries At $150,000
AMITYVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- There's a plan to cap the salaries of police officers in one Long Island village.
Amityville trustees said capping police salaries at $150,000 would save the village approximately $800,000 over four years.

The money would be used for needed tax relief and fixing roads, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported.
Reaction amongst taxpayers was mixed.
"I haven't had a raise in six years. Capping their salary? I think it's alright," said homeowner Danny Butel.
"They keep Amityville under control it seems like, you know?" said resident Ernie Barons.
The trustees point out that 20 of the village's 24 police officers earned more than $150,000 last year, including overtime, and 21 officers were paid more than any other village employee in 2013, Xirinachs reported.
Any salary cap would need the approval of the police union.
While the plan would cap salaries, it would also increase starting police pay from $42,000 to $78,000.
