AMBER Alert Issued For 5-Year-Old Girl Abducted In Newburgh
NEWBURGH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A New York State AMBER Alert was activated Wednesday afternoon as authorities investigate what they say is a child abduction.
Authorities said the incident happened at South Jr. High School, located at 33 Monument St. in Newburgh, at about 3:50 p.m. Wednesday.
Two Hispanic males, one with long black hair, grabbed and forced the child into a dark pickup truck, authorities said. The suspect also held his hand over the child's mouth to stop her from screaming, according to authorities.
Authorities are still not sure in what direction the truck is headed.
The child is described as Hispanic and 3-feet-tall with long black hair. She was last seen wearing a short-sleeve pink shirt.
Police said they are acting on a tip from kids with whom she was playing with at the school.
However, Newburgh police told CBS 2's Sean Hennessey that they have no reports of any missing kids. Police said that the alert was issued because they are taking the matter seriously based on the information from 5 to 6 witnesses, all of whom are children.
Newburgh Police told 1010 WINS' Holli Haerr the girl walked off from the group and that is when the pick-up truck pulled off and made off with the kid.
Newburgh Police reached out to State Police to give them the information they received from witnesses and New York State Police felt there was enough information to issue an AMBER Alert, CBS 2's Hennessey reported.
