Amber Alert Canceled After Conn. Kids Found Safe

MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut authorities said a 10-year-old girl and her 6-year-old brother have been found safe after they allegedly were abducted by their mother from their Manchester home.

Police canceled an Amber alert shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday after Ivelyse and Leonard Smith were found during a motor vehicle stop on Route 6 in Andover. The children's mother, Carmen Montanez, was taken into custody.

Authorities said Montanez abducted the children from their home on Huntington Street early Tuesday morning and drove off in a minivan. The Amber alert was issued shortly before 1:30 a.m.

Officials say Montanez does not have legal custody of the children, but has visitation rights. Police haven't announced any criminal charges.

Police stopped the minivan on Route 6 near Route 87.
