Amazon.com To Begin Charging Conn. Sales Tax On Friday
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - Attention shoppers! Connecticut residents will soon be paying sales tax for items bought on Amazon.com.
As WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reported, tax-free purchases on Amazon ends for Connecticut shoppers on Friday.
On Nov. 1, Amazon will begin charging the 6.35 percent Connecticut sales tax on items purchased over the Internet.

That revenue will be sent directly to Connecticut's Department of Revenue Services. Commissioner Kevin Sullivan said the taxes collected will be pretty solid.
"We're looking at a first year revenue number of $15 million," Sullivan told Schneidau.
Connecticut shoppers mulling a big purchase are reminded that they will be charged sales tax after midnight Thursday.
The Seattle-based e-commerce giant reached a deal with state officials in February to begin charging sales tax. As part of the deal, Amazon agreed to open a $50 million distribution center in the state and in exchange, Connecticut won't seek back taxes.
