Almost 10 Years Later, Old Deutsche Bank Tower Is Down
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- More than nine years after the Sept. 11 attacks, the demolition of the old Deutsche Bank building is nearly complete.
The building was irreparably damaged when the falling south tower of the World Trade Center ripped a 15-story gash into the structure.
WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reports if you come down to the old Deutsche Bank site, you'll see something you haven't been able to see in years -- the sky.

The former 40-story tower has been reduced to just the steel framework of the first floor.
"It's wonderful, and with the 10-year anniversary coming up, this will be the last large physical remnant of the travesty that happened on Sept. 11," said Community Board Vice Chairman Catherine McVay Hughes.
Hughes said not only does the site symbolize the problems that have plagued the rebuilding process, it's also a painful physical reminder of the 9/11 attacks.
She said she hopes when the building comes down completely it will inspire new life in the neighborhood.
"Downtown was always energetic, but nine-and-a-half years later it was stronger than it was before," Hughes said.
