4 Hospitalized, 3 In Critical Condition, After Bronx Multi-Vehicle Crash
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Four people were taken to area hospitals late Thursday after a multi-vehicle accident in the Bronx.
The crash happened Thursday night at Boston Road and Wallace Avenue in the Allerton section of t he Bronx. Three vehicles were involved, according to the FDNY.
The four injured victims were all pinned in their vehicles, the FDNY said. As CBS2's Jessica Layton reported, firefighters worked hard and fast to save the people inside one of the smashed cars involved in the crash.
The impact of the collision so powerful that it knocked a parked sport-utility vehicle up onto a bench on along Boston Road here in the Bronx.
A minivan with two people inside was also involved. Authorities did not say exactly how the crash, happened but witnesses know one thing for sure – it was difficult to watch the aftermath.
"It was glass all over the floor coming three cars down -- it was just crazy. I was just hoping nobody ended up dead, and that's how ugly the scene," said witness Jose Lopez. "I was just hoping first responders came fast and got them guys out of there."
After extrication, three of the victims were in critical condition and a fourth in serious, but stable condition, the FDNY said.
The victims were taken to Jacobi Medical Center and St. Barnabas Hospital, the FDNY said.
A fifth person suffered a minor injury and refused medical treatment, the FDNY said. That person was described as a bystander.
