Alleged Police Impersonator Rabbi Undergoing Treatment For Bipolar Disorder
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A defense lawyer says a rabbi who has been accused of flashing a badge and trying to pull over fellow motorists is being treated for bipolar disorder.
Attorney Andrew Rubin issued a statement Monday, including an apology, on behalf of Rabbi Alfredo Borodowski.
Borodowski has been charged with impersonating a police officer in Mamaroneck last month. He allegedly pulled alongside a woman driver and shouted "Police! Pull over!''
Two other drivers in Westchester County have since come forward with similar complaints against the rabbi, but no other charges have been filed.
Borodowski was terminated from his position as executive director of the Skirball Center for Jewish Learning at Temple Emanu-El on East 65th Street last week, but he is still listed as the rabbi at Sulam Yaakov in Larchmont.
Rubin said the rabbi's mental health treatment contributed to his "manic behavior.''
