Alex Rodriguez Plays Third Base In Rehab Stint
LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez played in the field for the first time during his three-game rehab assignment with the Single A Tampa Yankees on Saturday. He flew out to shallow right in his first at-bat and grounded to third in his second at-bat.
Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman indicated that there was a good chance that Rodriguez would join the Yankees on Monday when they open a three-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays. He is expected to be the designated hitter in Sunday's morning game in Lakeland.
Rodriguez has missed a little more than a month with a broken bone in his left hand suffered when he was struck by a Felix Hernandez pitch. Rodriguez, batting .276 with 15 homers for the season, went on the disabled list on July 25 and had eight doubles in his last 23 games before his injury.
