Alex Ovechkin Guarantees Capitals Will Beat Rangers In Game 7
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Rangers were dead and buried.
And then Chris Kreider scored at the 18:19 mark of the third period in Game 5 to force overtime. And then Ryan McDonagh scored in overtime to keep the season alive.
And then on Sunday night, the Blueshirts beat the Capitals on their ice.
Just like that, New York -- once down 3-1 in its second-round series -- is staring down at a do-or-die Game 7 at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night.
If you think Capitals star winger Alex Ovechkin is concerned, think again.
The three-time Hart Trophy winner has guaranteed that his team will prevail in the decisive seventh game.
HARTNETT: SORRY RANGERS FANS, BUT OVECHKIN-MESSIER COMPARISON IS DEAD-ON
"We're going to come back and win the series," Ovechkin told reporters on Sunday night after the Capitals' 4-3 loss in Game 6. "We're going to play our game, and we're going to come back and we're going to play Montreal or Tampa."
Ovechkin has been held scoreless in the last four games.
Coming back isn't new territory for the Rangers. In the semifinals last spring, New York trailed the Penguins 3-1 before winning the next three and advancing to the conference finals. The Rangers would go on to defeat the Canadiens and advance to their first Stanley Cup Final since 1994, where they lost to the Kings in 5 games.
Ovechkin, who has registered four goals and four assists this postseason, has never reached the Eastern Conference finals in his illustrious career.
