Parking Rates At 3 Major Airports In NYC, NJ Expected To Increase
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- It's going to cost more to park at the three major airports that serve the New York City area.
According to the Port Authority, the increases are meant to help manage the high parking demand, essentially trying to encourage people to take mass transit or a cab instead of driving, CBS2's Alice Gainer reported.
"It encourages me to use a different airport, that's what it does," Mitch Kushner, of Rockland County, said.
"That's ridiculous. I think they're just taking advantage of the situation," Dave Stokes, of Washington Township, New Jersey, said.

The maximum daily parking rate in central terminal parking lots at LaGuardia Airport will increase to $59 starting Saturday. Hourly rates will increase from $8 to $10 per hour.
LaGuardia's long-term parking will remain $18 as part of a holiday promotion until Dec. 31.
"It's a huge amount of money," one traveler said.
Most airports in major cities across the United States offer parking for around $30.
The only other big city airport that's just as pricey is Chicago O'Hare at $60 during the week.
"Thirty is about what's normal and on the higher end," another said.
"Twenty five, thirty," Haruki Sekiyma, of Port Washington, said. "No that's very, very expensive."
Parking availability is also limited at LaGuardia due to ongoing construction in the area.

"Took me forever to find a parking spot over here," one person said.
"They're re-doing the airport, so that's the good news," another said.
Daily parking rates at Newark Liberty International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport will also increase on or about Jan. 8.
The daily maximum rate at Newark's closest central terminal lots will increase from $33 to $39 per day. The daily rate at JFK's highest-demand Green/Red/Orange lots will go from $33 to $35 per day. Long-term parking will remain $18 per day at both airports.
