After Utley Slide, Mets Fans Get Retribution In Form Of Game 3 Win

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Fans were on their toes at Citi Field Monday night, as the Mets got their revenge by hammering the Los Angeles Dodgers.
As CBS2's Tracee Carrasco reported, Mets fans were looking for a win against the Dodgers – and a lead in the National League Division series – after Dodgers second baseman Chase Utley slid into Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada in Game 2 on Saturday.
The Monday night game ended in a decisive 13-7 win for the Mets.
In the infamous Saturday slide, Tejada's right leg was broken, and he will miss the rest of the postseason. MLB Chief Baseball Officer Joe Torre, said Utley's takeout of Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada in Game 2 on Saturday was an "illegal slide," and suspended him for Games 3 and 4 of the series.
Utley's appeal of his suspension was not heard Monday, and he was eligible to play in Game 3. But he did not make an appearance in the game.
As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported, Utley was booed mightily as his name was announced before the game. But fans told CBS2's Carrasco the most important goal was to win.
"Plenty of time for retribution down the road -- right now, you've got to win the game," said Mets fan John Scarano. "Everything can happen, whether it's next season or something like that. Right now, win the game,"
"I think that Chase was out of line," added Mets fan Nick Giampieteo. "He went out of his way, he hurt Tejada, he broke his leg, and now we've got to beat them for payback."
Meanwhile, some brave Dodgers fans who came to Citi Field Monday night were prepared for some hostility.
"My mom actually texted me earlier. She was like, 'Don't show, don't show your hat around here,'" said Dodgers fan Dylan Molinelli. "She's kind of scared for me."
In the big picture, 1010 WINS' John Montone reported, it has been nine long years of epic September collapses and terrible tedious baseball for the Mets until now – and playoff baseball has actually come to Citi Field for the first time.
