Adopt A "Real House Cat of NYC" From Animal Care & Control Of NY

New York (CBS New York)  They're fabulous felines. Cool cats. Captivating kitties.

They're The Real House Cats of New York City, and they're available for adoption at AC&C, at a reduced fee this weekend!

Promising "all the entertainment with none of the catfights", Animal Care & Control of New York is inviting New York's "kindest" to check out adoptable cats of all ages this weekend between 12 noon and 7pm at the three shelters:  326 East 110th St in Manhattan, 2336 Linden Boulevard in Brooklyn and 3139 Veterans Road West in Staten Island.

AC&C Adoption Director Jessica Vacarro

As part of the process, AC&C Adoption Supervisor Jessica Vacarro told 1010 WINS, potential adopters will complete an application, spend time with the animal of your choice, and sit down with an adoption counselor who will make sure you're choosing the right pet for your lifestyle, as well as ensuring the needs of that animal are also met.  There are currently approximately 240 cats available at the AC&C shelters, according to Vacarro.

The adoption fee for cats 7 months and older will be $10 (regularly $25-$50).  Kittens 6 months and under will be $40 (usually $75).

All AC&C adoptions include vaccinations, spay/neuter, a pre-registered microchip, an identification tag, a collar, one month of free PetFirst Insurance, and a certificate for a free initial exam at a participating veterinarian.

Available kitties can be viewed online at www.nycacc.org, where you can also learn more about their volunteer and foster programs.

You can also meet Real Housecats (and some dogs, too) at Times Square on Sunday, Aug. 25.  AC&C animals will be up for adoption at the 25th annual Ecofest from 10am-2pm.

Animal Care & Control of New York City (AC&C) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that, as part of its contract with New York City, is required by law to take in every animal that comes to the shelter, either as a stray, owner surrender, seizure, abandonment, cruelty case or other circumstance.  As a result, AC&C takes in more than 30,000 animals each year. As part of it's New Hope Program, AC&C works daily to place at risk animals with more than 150 other rescue groups and shelters.  Those animals are transported by the Wheels Of Hope program of the Mayor's Alliance For New York City's Animals.  Learn more about Wheels of Hope at www.animalalliancenyc.org.
