Love Shown: Injured 'Spider-Man' Actor Attends Friday Show
NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- The actor critically injured in the "Spider-Man" Broadway musical was back at the theater Friday night, receiving a welcome fit for a superhero.
It was a Broadway triumph -- Christopher Tierney well enough to walk up to the theater.
The last time he was there was on Dec. 20 when he was taken away by paramedics.
Caught on video was the 30-foot fall that could have killed him.
Being back on Friday, as a member of the audience, was a big boost for a troubled production.
"The message I want to send is I believe in this show. I believe in everything that is done on that stage," Tierney said.
It was the fourth Spider-Man cast member injury and by far the worst. Tierney said a crew member failed to secure his safety line.
"It was surreal because it was a moment I thought couldn't go wrong ever," Tierney said.
"We went through the process of forgiving me, forgiving them. It wasn't a long process. It was me going that can't happen ever again."
The brace he wears is customized with Spider-Man art. Rods and screws will remain in his back for at least six months.
"I'm gonna push to get back into the show and I might join the show in a different capacity for a little while," Tierney said.
"Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" has attracted its share of VIPs. But at Friday's performance there was one that was more important and beloved than any other. Tierney felt the love.
"A whole lot of love," he said.
"It's not easy to be sitting and watching the show versus performing. We want to remind him that he is still a star," said Alexis Field of Washington Heights.
"To go be out of rehab and see a show this fast [after the] accident, what pride and what positive energy has to be running through his body," added Cassie Okenka of Midtown.
Shaking hands. Signing autographs. Tierney lives up to the Broadway motto that the show, and this performer, must go on.
