Activists Rally Outside Secaucus Walmart To Demand Higher Wages
SEACACUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Activists gathered at Walmart in Secaucus on Friday to demand better worker wages.
Meanwhile, the company's CEO is defending the retail giant. Bill Simon says his stores offers opportunity.
"Entry level jobs are in our store," Simon said. "We have lots of opportunity for people to grow into management and today over half of our folks make well above the amount that's being requested."
The CEO is also defending Walmart against criticism for leaving its doors open on Thanksgiving. Critics say employees should be able to spend time with their families.
Simon says workers who came in were given holiday pay and deep discounts on Walmart products.
"We're proud of the opportunity people have to progress in our company," Simon said.
