Judge Denies Accused UES Madam's Bid For Bail Reduction
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The suburban mother accused of being a Manhattan madam was back in court Monday, but lost her effort to get out of jail.
Lawyers for Anna Gristina tried to have her $2 million bail reduced, but a judge denied the request. The lawyers argued that Gristina's bond was unjust and too high, adding that her family was unable to afford it.

Prosecutors, however, believe that Gristina has the money and the means to flee.
On Monday, prosecutors revealed that on wiretaps Gristina was tipped off by law enforcement about the Eliot Spitzer probe in 2008 and subsequently fled to Canada and stayed for 4 weeks, 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa reported.
Gristina has been in jail for a month, charged with allegedly running an Upper East Side brothel.
At a court appearance last month, Gristina's attorney Gary Greenwald called the amount ridiculously high, but said he would not rule out a possible plea deal.
"In every criminal case you ever have, from murder to spitting on the sidewalk, you always ask, 'What's the possibility of a plea,'" Greenwald said. "It doesn't mean you're going to accept."
The District Attorney has argued that Gristina is a flight risk. Gristina pleaded not guilty in February.
