A Star-Studded Week At MSG Sees Billy Joel, Louis C.K. And More

Provided by TiqIQ

In a particularly star-studded week, “The World’s Most Famous Arena” is welcoming America’s favorite stand-up comedian and New York’s most beloved rock star to the venue in the coming days. The award-winning writer, creator and lead actor of FX’s "Louie," and beloved stand-up star Louie C.K. will bring his comedy to the masses on Wednesday night, two nights prior to Billy Joel’s January 9th date as part of his months-long residency at Madison Square Garden. In addition to these events we'll see New York Knicks basketball, a bitter college hockey rivalry game and a venture into boxing for a burgeoning sports agency.

Below is a breakdown of the events taking place at MSG this week, with ticket price information provided by ScoreBig.com and NYC parking deals from ParkWhiz.com.

1/7/15 Louie C.K. | Average Price $123 | Get-in price $45 | New York City Parking $11

The 25-time Primetime Emmy Award Nominated C.K. brings his fan-favorite stand up comedy to MSG on Wednesday for his first of two shows, the second coming on January 14. He swings by The Garden as part of his whirlwind week that will see him play famous venues in New York, LA and Chicago before Sunday.

C.K. has gained some attention for his direct-to-fan sales strategy, which he implemented for this show, as well as his recent stand-up specials online. For his MSG shows he simply emailed his subscriber list to make them aware of tickets being on sale for $45, with the caveat being that they must be picked up in person in order to reduce scalping and re-selling. Alas, his tickets are available on the secondary market, but C.K. has gone to great lengths to ensure his fans fill the seats and can do so at a reasonable price.

1/8/15 New York Knicks vs. Houston Rockets | Average Price $194 | Get-in price $46 | NYC Parking $11

After last night’s three-team trade involving Cleveland and Oklahoma City saw the Knicks ship J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert out of town, the Knicks have declared themselves fully in rebuilding mode. As such Knicks tickets available at ScoreBig.com can be found below face value, which is worthwhile especially when a team like the Rockets comes to town. Led by stars James Harden and Dwight Howard, the Houston Rockets are a power in the Western Conference and offer and exciting up-and-down brand of basketball.

To be able to park and get in the arena for less than $60, especially with tickets to see the Houston Rockets’ two top stars is a pretty good deal for fans.

1/9/15 Throne Boxing | Average Price $118 | Get-in price $51 | NYC Parking $11

Roc Nation Sports, part of the portfolio of superstar entertainer Jay-Z, will make their first foray into boxing with the debut of Throne Boxing on Friday night at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden. Ticket prices are holding steady at $51 just to get in The Theatre to see some of the sport’s bright young stars, headlined by Dusty Hernandez with an undefeated 24-0 record taking on Tommy Rainone who sports a s solid 22-5-1 record.

Two-time platinum recording artist Fabolous will take the stage prior to the main event for a special performance. Notably, one dollar for every ticket purchased for this event will be donated to the Muhammad Ali Center.

1/9/15 Billy Joel | Average Price $339 | Get-in price $113 | NYC Parking $11

Having sold out 12 consecutive shows at Madison Square Garden to start his thus-far year-long residency, Billy Joel will take the stage monthly at least through the end of September of 2015. The September show was recently announced and will mark the 21stshow as part of his run that was announced in December of 2013 and is thus far sold out through July (19 shows).

Joel will be back in the Garden on February 18, but as his shows continue to sell out the ticket prices are holding their value. Even during a busy week at The Garden, Joel has the highest priced average ticket and get-in price for fans. Yet given how incredible his performances have been, it may be the best value as well.

1/10/15 New York Knicks vs. Charlotte Hornets | Average Price $188 | Get-in price $40 | NYC Parking $10

Coming off of a playoff appearance in 2014 the Charlotte Hornets had high hopes for 2015, but their season has been underwhelming to say the least. They sit at 12-24 this season under team owner Michael Jordan, who is no stranger to Madison Square Garden himself.

The Hornets are led by former UConn star Kemba Walker who averages a team leading 18.1 points and 5.5 assists per night. It was Walker’s mesmerizing Big East Tournament run at Madison Square Garden that catapulted the UConn Huskies to the National Championship in 2011. He has always relished his chances to play in front of the Garden crowd, and this weekend’s game promises to be no different.

1/10/15 Rivalry on Ice: #3 Harvard vs. #19 Yale | Average Price $117 | Get-in price $45 | New York City Parking $10

The second annual “Rivalry on Ice” game between Harvard and Yale will take place Saturday night following last year’s inaugural game that saw Yale defeat Harvard in front of a capacity crowd. NY Rangers legends Mark Messier and Mike Richter dropped the puck last year with Secretary of State John Kerry, and this year a unique intermission skating performance will be sure to wow the crowd between periods. Olympic gold medalist Sarah Huges, a Yale alum, will take the ice with her sister Olympian Emily Hughes, who is a Harvard alum. As if the rivalry between these sisters was not intense enough!

The latest USCHO Division I Men’s Poll has Harvard (10-1-2) as the third-ranked team in the nation, whereas Yale (8-3-2) sits at number 19 in the country and looking to make an NCAA Tournament push. This game will go a long way towards helping determine their end-of-season positioning.
