A Sign Of The Season: Annual Macy's Flower Show Under Way
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- If you're in need of a dose of spring, you're in luck.
It's a sensation for the senses and a sure sign that spring has sprung, even if it might not feel like it outside. The annual Macy's Flower Show is under way at its flagship store in Herald Square, CBS 2's Scott Rapoport reported.
"Ahhh I don't even know if there are any words to describe it," said Danette Lynch, of the Bronx.
The show is a floral extravaganza featuring lush foliage and scenic landscapes, all inside a department store.
This year's theme is "The Secret Garden." Flowers, plants, and trees from around the globe are put up on display for all to enjoy.
"We're talking about thousands and thousands of flowers. We have about 200 varieties. Almost 30,000 plants," said Susan Tercero, Vice President of Events Operations for Macy's Entertainment Group.
Among the highlights of the show is the eye-popping Lady in the Red Dress, a 14-foot-tall combination of architecture, fashion and flowers -- 2,000 of them to be exact.
Macy's has been holding the flower show, delighting visitors of all ages, for 40 years.
And after a long, cold, dreary winter perhaps a portent of warmer, more colorful times ahead.
The Macy's Flower Show: The Secret Garden runs through April 6.
